A gyűjtemény törzsét azonban ma is a bronzkor alkotja.

A város történetére vonatkozó dokumentumok gyűjtése 1951 őszén kezdődött.

The Intercisa Museum preserves and presents to its visitors one of the largest collections from the Roman period in Hungary.

The museum is a scientifically organized rural public collection, where we ensure the preservation and conservation of more than 700,000, primarily archaeological artefacts. The proud past and identity of Dunaújváros is embodied in the natural, historical and artistic objects preserved in our collections.

The construction of the Dunai Vasmű and the new town, which began in the spring of 1950, required archaeological excavations already in the winter of that year. Researchers from almost all over the country took part in the large-scale excavation that began in the spring of 1951. The construction workers initiated the on-site exhibition of the finds. That is why a decision was made to create a museum for the socialist city to be built south of Dunapentele.

The institution, which has been operating in poor conditions since 1951, occupied its current home, the former party house, in 1970. Since 1975, the institution bears the name of Intercisa, the ancient settlement's predecessor.

Our earliest finds come from the Neolithic period, about 6,000 years ago. However, the core of the collection is still made up of the Bronze Age. We preserve ceramic and bronze materials from several sites (Kisapostag, Kulcs, Koziderpadlás), which were named after contemporary cultures, groups, and eras. Among the finds from the Late Iron Age, a treasure of Celtic silver coins stands out, which was found in the area of the city.

A Roman military camp was established in the area of Dunaújváros in the 1st century, where the Roman military was continuously stationed until the 5th century. A significant part of our collection from the Roman period is made up of the legacy of the military and the inhabitants of the civilian settlement established next to the camp.

The earliest finds of the medieval and early modern collection date from the 5th century, the latest from the 17th-18th century. they can be dated to the century. In our museum, you can find the finds of the peoples of the migration: Huns, Germans, Avars, the legacy of the conquest and Árpád era, the Hungarian population of the Middle Ages and the Turkish era, and the memories of the Turkish soldiers stationed here.

The collection of documents related to the history of the city began in the fall of 1951. From 1953, the elimination of material poverty and the collection of materials for local events of anniversaries and jubilee exhibitions came to the fore. Later, significant emphasis was placed on the history of Dunapentele between the two world wars and the history of lifestyle in the 20th century. In 2007, the inventory of the collection consisted of 1,761 objects, 6,859 original, source-valued documents and 399 archival photographs.

The foundations of the museum's ethnographic collection were laid by the research that began in 1951 and touched on many areas of material culture and folklore. The collection of objects since 1954 significantly developed the collection, which in 2007 consisted of 2,146 objects.

The permanent exhibition entitled The History of Dunaújváros from prehistoric times to the mid-1970s emphasizes the Bronze Age and Roman Age past of the city and its surroundings, and presents the history of the construction of the new city in detail. The institution organizes craft activities related to its collections, unusual museum classes, playhouse programs reminiscent of the past, and educational lectures for its audience.
