A finnugor eredetű „hölgy” szavunk valaha a kistermetű prémes állatokat elentette, s innen kapta nevét a község.

Hőgyész, a Tolna megyei község történelmi múltja a korai Árpád- korig nyúlik vissza.

A hercegi kastélyszálló

Amikor Liechtenstein Alfréd Hőgyészen átvette a birtokot, a nagykastély nem neki jutott osztályrészül, hanem nagybátyjának, Apponyi II.Károlynak, aki viszont Pálfán birtokolt.

A teljes nyugalomról a szálloda előtti park gondoskodik.

Hőgyész

Nowadays, when silence and tranquility have increased in value due to the fast-paced lifestyle, it is a special value if we can recharge our batteries in a place where, according to archeological finds, people enjoyed spending time even in prehistoric times.
We have few settlements whose names mean occupation. The early Hungarian equivalent of our word "Hőgyész", the word "hölgyész", was a name denoting an occupation such as fisherman, hunter, or birdwatcher.
Our word "lady" of Finno-Ugric origin once referred to small fur animals, and this is where the village got its name from. Since the fur of the ermine could only be worn by the most distinguished people, the royal and princely courts kept special ermine hunters, "lady hunters". The coat of arms of the large village faithfully preserves this heritage to this day.
Hőgyész, a settlement that offers diverse recreation and at the same time tranquility, is located on the section of road 65 between Tamási and Szekszárd. The village is surrounded by a peaceful natural environment, with oak and acacia forests in a wildlife reserve. 10 ha in the center of Hőgyész. a natural conservation park emphasizes the settlement.
The historical past of Hőgyész, a village in Tolna county, dates back to the early Árpád period. In the course of history, it is depopulated several times, then in the 18th century. With the settlement of the German-speaking population in the 19th century, a new era and development began in the life of the increasingly populous village, then market town.
Claudius Florimundus Mercy, who belongs to the Duchy of Lorraine, buys the estate called Apari with the associated villages and wastelands. He makes Hőgyész the center of this estate consisting of five villages and thirty fields, and thus the area begins its development as the Hőgyész Manor.

The Duke's Castle Hostel
Built by Count Mercy in the 1720s, the castle was owned by the Apponyi family for more than 150 years. However, through the marriage of the first-born Apponyi daughter to Frigyes Liechtenstein, the Höggyés estate passed to the Liechtenstein family.
When Liechtenstein Alfréd Hőgyéssen took over the estate, the grand castle did not go to him as a class share, but to his uncle, Károly Apponyi II, who in turn owned Pálfá. But Alfréd Liechtenstein did not want or was able to take over the quadrum building of the grand castle due to the financial problems of maintenance.
Therefore, the ancient one-story manorial official building, which in the course of time was also the building of the prefect's house and chancellery, was converted into an apartment. Since then, it has been known by its well-known name: the Duke's Castle.
They lived in the castle until the end of the Second World War, then after the Russian troops entered, the family fled to Liechtenstein and Germany.
The Liechtenstein Castle is located next to the Appony Castle Hotel in a quiet environment. The park in front of the hotel ensures complete tranquility.
